Easy Chocolate Sauce – like my mum used to make

I recently made a Chocolate and beetroot sponge with pears and thought…. ooh, my mum used to make an easy chocolate sauce, and fortunately my memory kicked in and I remembered the recipe.   It’s basically like making custard from custard powder, except chocolate flavoured!

1 tablespoon Cocoa Powder

1.5 tablespoon cornflour

1 tablespoon sugar

1 Pint of milk

Put about 5 fluid ozs of the milk in a jug and the rest of the pint into a saucepan and bring slowly to the boil

Whilst you’re doing that put the dry ingredients into the jug and stir them until smooth.

When the milk is beginning to rise up the saucepan (simmering away) pour it into the jug whilst still stirring the chocolaty mixture.

Pour this back into the saucepan and continue to heat for a few more minutes stirring continuously until it’s the consistency that you want.   Careful though, as you don’t want it to burn on the bottom.

Pour it back in your jug, and away you go! mmmm
