Belle’s warm ears

My daughter was given something along these lines for Christmas, unfortunately it was a little too small for her, so I said that I’d make her one to her design, hence the flower and butterfly!

This is a pretty simple design, but involves short rows and the wrap and turn technique.   A good tutorial for this is :   http://www.purlbee.com/shortrow-tutorial/  (although I didn’t bother with the picking up stitches part as they didn’t show with the chunky yarn)

Chunky yarn, less than 50g.  Oddments to embellish!

6mm needles

Tension: 14 stitches, 20 rows in a 10 x 10cm

Head size 55cm (measured along line it would be worn)

Terms: 1 x 1 rib = (k1, p1) to end, and on next row K the stitches that you just purled (they look smooth on this side), and purl the stitches that you just knitted I(they have a bump on this side).

Pattern

Cast on 70 st
Row 1 – 2: 1 x 1 rib for 2 rows
Row 3: rib 3, yo, k2tog, k until there are 30 stitches on left needle, wrap and turn
Row 4: p to last 30 st wrap and turn
Row 5: k to last 25 st wrap and turn
Row 6: p to last 25 st wrap and turn
